In the article "How the murder of four teens started a war" by Patricia Smith, It explains how four innocent teenagers were kidnapped and brutally murdered by Palestinian militants in Israel. The feud between Israel and Hamas was subtly active until this pushed them over the edge. This awful event sparked a bigger war between them and now people are questioning whether it is worth it.
The author uses many great crafts to pull in her readers such as including visual imagery. She includes pictures of the boys to show how they were just normal teenagers. She also inserted a picture of a map to show how close Israel is to Palestinian territories and how this fighting could go on because they are right next to each other and do share The Sea of Galilee that they both use. Another craft the author uses would be her subtle perspective hidden between the lines. Overall she is mostly objective but you can still see her opinion slipped into the text. She uses quote from Walid Abu khdeir the cousin of a victim "His life was still ahead of him, and here in one minute, extremists who hate Arabs, who hate peace, came in and cut short his whole life." She probably would not have included this quote if she did not agree with it because it is very big and very powerful.
This article was very interesting and I learned a lot from it because where I live we don't see things like this and everything seems happy and good but in reality there is strive all around us. This article really made me realize that we take so much for granted and we don't realize that people are dying and towns are being ruined. This article really did open my eyes.
